An Ass, A Camera, & Levi’s Jeans | Bust Or Success?

Recently I was able to make the following comments on a great post at http://www.rohitbhargava.com/2011/02/how-levis-rear-view-girls-video-went-sneakily-viral.html on a recent Levi’s attempt at viral marketing.  I believe that big company marketing can still be done in an anonymous manner.  If the concept is cool and if  the video does not look SUPER  “produced”, then the viral nature of the campaign can still be pulled off.

What are the Elements of something “viral”?

  1. Edgy:  To my Mom and Dad, I say… “SORRY!”, but this is a great excuse to say “ASS” in an informational forum and get away with it.  So “edgy” is a great description as the video makers exploited something hot in many arenas…As Trace Adkins would say…. Ladies with that Ba Donk a Donk.
  2. Silent Truths:  So, when watching the first video below, you will see guys with their girlfriend looking…. Guys with other guys looking and even women together commenting on the “ass cam”.  But the silent truth is that men and women do secretly check out other attractive people… for “whatever” reason.  😉
  3. Shock Factor:  Because of the novel nature of this promotional video, it is enough for me to blog about it and for most people to LIKE on Facebook or SHARE.  Yep, this had shock factor.
  4. Sexuality:  Yep, the age old slogan of  “Sex Sells”.  Two adorable chicks walking down the street all stiletto’ed out in hot pants.   All they needed was a pack of Virgina Slims or a glass of a fine cognac… and yep, they could have marketed that too.
  5. Well Strategized … Exotic:  Rohit states that these were Aussies in L.A. … What better than two ladies with accents coming over and stealing the hearts of American guys and gals?

Overall, its sexy… different, edgy… oh, and although it was “found out” that it was Levi’s… I still think it was a novel promotion.

What do you think?

Review the following two videos and then check out my friend over at RohitBhargava.com to see what he and his readers say…
