19 Apr Marketing Footprints, Google Books, and a Very Old 1966 Boat Motor
Many of my friends and co-workers know that I like to fish. Recently a friend let me borrow a boat that he has had sitting in his back yard for over a 6 years. The boat is over 40 years old by the way.
After I got the wet pine straw, leaves, and mosquito larvae out of it, I drug it to my house to see if I can get in at least condition to see if it will float.
It’s pretty rough and my wife probably thinks I am crazy… but hey. I want a challenge and with gas prices like they are, can’t afford my yacht yet. LOL
All I need is a minnow to float around on the small lakes I fish.
However, I got the opportunity to think about marketing impact and how long it can be around in various formats.
Marketing Footprint
What is your marketing footprint like these days? If the analytics and the key performance indicators don’t help you to put out the VERY BEST marketing campaigns, then you should remember that your efforts just MAY BE RECORDED for others to see.
Don’t put out Junk.
Google Books…
What an awesome resource! Today, the marketing efforts that are done, regardless of medium, may be forever accessible via internet. Someone somewhere, has the ability to archive aesthetic looks and content. Just check out archive.org at any time to see how your websites have evolved over time.
So when I was searching for some help on troubleshooting a 1966 20 HP Chrysler, the Google result brought me to an archived magazine article in Popular Science with a review of the 1966 boat motors including the line of which the motor I am rebuilding was a part.
What a footprint! Over 45 years ago and whatever marketing materials and research went into creating the article, are still here archived for us. And archived way better than crazy microfiche machines! (remember those??)
I can imagine the Product and Marketing team over at Chrysler scrambling to get their data ready for this article and then framing the article once they saw their work in print. Looks like they did a decent job, especially in retrospect compared to their competition.
Put your best foot forward on your campaigns… Never know how long they will be visible! And Enjoy Google Books. I lost a few hours of time reading old articles and checking out the marketing of the day.
