D.i.c.k. Envy and The Threshold of Content Marketing

Marketers over the past couple of years have been REALLY on the content marketing strategy.  But what honestly is the threshold and what other tactics are on the horizon to either take content marketing to the next level OR replace it?

Everybody and their marketing mother is talking about Content Marketing.  But isn’t content marketing just a new and improved term related to an age old practice?

The best content has always won.  If the content was more relevant, more informative, makes me feel a certain way, speaks to my human desires and wants, and is appropriate for my mind in time and place, then yes, I am going to gravitate that way.

Sort of like you gravitated towards this article to read about DICK envy?

Yep…. D.I.C.K. will have a lot to do with your successes and sometimes even a few of your failures.

Before you make spend your whole marketing life aimlessly creating content that doesn’t compete for social engagement metrics, doesn’t get trafficked, nor talked about, make sure that you’ve studied D.I.C.K. enough to understand what is driving traffic towards good KPi’s and what is fluff and garbage.

As humans, our curiosity is sparked readily and easily according to our desires, wants, and needs.  There are also secondary human needs that speak to us investigating “taboo” topics.

Your landing here on this page, was:

  • Half, did he really say that?
  • 30% WHAT & WHY would he say that?
  • 10% Taboo
  • 10% He’s “hating” on Content Marketing.  Let’s read how he rebels.

Yes, Content Marketing is SO sexy right now.  But the point of diminishing returns is among us.  The threshold of information overload is here.  We must, as marketers be extremely strategic in our needs to create content, get our points across, and NOT get tied up in the rat race of content, just for content’s sake.

Do me a favor.  Tweet out and / or post on your facebook how this lunatic has just posted an article about DICK envy… and let’s measure how many bounces we get, and how KPIs do wonders for decent funny topics…

OR let’s just see if its put into a bucket with other lame content in the blogosphere.  Your comments are welcome.
