03 May Interactive Marketing Tool… QR Mobile Phone Tags
With the onset of everyone using their Mobile devices for everything from live price comparisons while shopping, to paying bills, it has become a secondary thought to use the device for its original purpose… talking on it!
However, I wanted to show you a feature called QR Codes. The coding system is a two dimensional code that allows contents to be enconded and decoded relatively easy. This coding system allows one to assign data (telephone numbers, web urls, etc, event information, coupon codes etc) to a graphical image.
This image can then be decoded by using a mobile phone application.
Its pretty easy, and right now, pretty cool.
- Install the decoder on your mobile phone. There is one available at www.beetagg.com
- Take a picture of the graphic (can be on your pc screen OR in offline marketing materials
- The decoder, does just what it is named, and takes the graphic picture and returns the data that was stored.
So in the image below, I encoded a very special URL :-). Using my mobile, I took the picture with the decoder application and it took me to a very cool place! pgi.com
While starting as a Japanese trend, it is now being used in early adoption by Android users (native app installed) and other popular hand helds.
Business benefit is possible, as we may be able to market to early adopters with special discounts and promotions. What a cool technology. Check it out!
