05 Jul Internet Marketing: Bringing Friends, Family, and $ Within Fewer Degrees

It’s amazing …. HAPPY 4th of July!  As we complain of gas prices, high taxes, loss of homes… YES, this is unAmerican in pattern.  The pattern that most of us are used to is the routine HAPPY days of being able to manage our day to day lives with ease and comfort. 

This ability afforded to us IS the ideaology of America.  SOME of us brought here against our will… but afforded the spiritual WILL to overcome any obstacles to build our existence.

With that being said, as Americans, we honestly are given lots of that other countries will NEVER be given.  I AM thankful to be an American and am becoming a more patriotic one.  Call me what you want….. (I have been called worse).

 With that being said, this 4th of July was spent with friends and family.  Family….

This reminds me how the internet has brought me close to a “cousin”.  Let me explain. 

Years ago…. perhaps about 7 or so… I was doing my thing in forums … Pushing the importance of the keyword “Black” as it pertained to “African Americans”.  You see, from an internet marketing stand point, it was easier for me to push “Black”initiatives compared to “African American”.  Domain names, were easier to spell with less keystrokes AND “BLACK” was more comprehensive and inclusive to those of darker complexion who may be in America… .Not all dark complexions were from Africa…..  THUS, it was easier for me to market, “BlackAtlanta.com” vs. AfricanAmerican Atlanta .. YOU get the point right?

The flip side, supporting the term “African American” was supported by a gentleman named Kelvin.  Now Kelvin is VERY strong in internet marketing, but I made some very strong points also.  We went back and forth for several forum strings….

HONESTLY.. He was getting on my nerves.  I was used to being an authority.  And we went back and forth. Then one day, all I can remember faintly, was an email where one of us decided to offer peace and find ways to collaborate.  He got my number.  I got his. 

Long story short…. I was coming from my hometown of Muskogee, Oklahoma… visiting my mother… and some other relatives in a small town called Taft.  Now, Taft has NO stoplights… NO McDonalds. Honestly, it has a sign outside of its limits boasting 500 population Strong.

 I get a call on my mobile phone as I was leaving Taft, about to get on the road to drive back to Atlanta.  It was Kelvin.  The conversation went something like this…

Kelvin:  Where are you coming back from Vacation?  Brandon:  A Small place in Oklahoma.  Kelvin:  Oh really?  I am from Oklahoma  Brandon:  Yea… probably not here.  I am from Muskogee, and I am just leaving Taft Oklahoma where my Grandmother and a couple sets of Uncles and Aunts live.  Kelvin:  Oh Really?  My uncle and aunt owned the store in Taft.  Brandon:  NO.  MY uncle and aunt owned the ONLY store on the main strip of Taft… Kelvin:  Little Brandon?????????? The last time I saw you, you were about 10 years old!!!!! ……

You see, Kelvin’s Aunt married my Dad’s Brother.  We are not actually blood cousins.. but … .THAT is my cousin 🙂

The internet brings people together in many ways.  A simple encounter in a forum… brought me together with a “Cousin” with the same interest as me:  Internet Marketing.  He has been able to bring me closer to family that I may not have really rubbed elbows with honestly.  But because he is a few years older than me, he was able to spend lots more time with my older cousins …. giving me good perspectives on all of them. 

Now, we have the ability to further make cash together. 

Recently, Kelvin visited Atlanta and I was able to accomodate him while he attended Willie Crawford’s latest seminar in Atlanta.  I was able to help both of them by referring a videographer that has done great work with me in the past.  (Hope he did great on this one too).  So now, by meeting Kelvin online, I was able to get a degree closer to an internet millionaire… Willie Crawford.
